On the 22nd October 2009 4 birds of prey arrived in Cyprus from the Netherlands in the legal manor that is required and in the same manor which we have received hundreds of deliveries of birds.
Upon arrival at Larnaca airport the Department of Veterinary Services confiscated all 4 birds even though the customs officers examined all the documents and found that all where in order. The veterinary officer present insisted and proceeded with confiscating the birds because he had orders from Mr. Paulos Toumazos, Director of the Department of Veterinary Services. They kept the birds for 3 days in the cramp transport boxes still wearing their head masks and without the ability to see. After many written attempts where by we stressed that the department's actions were wrong they eventually permitted us to bring the birds to our farm.
